What’s Your Dog’s Sign?

Are you one of those people who can’t wait to read your horoscope each day? Maybe you even plan your day based on what you read. But have you ever wondered about your dog’s sign? Perhaps your dog is shy, but intelligent—a Virgo, or maybe you have a fearless, but demanding dog who is a classic Leo. Dogs, like people, have different traits and personalities based on their zodiac sign.

But what is your dog’s sign? To identify the correct sign for your pet, you need to know his date of birth. If you have a purebred dog, you probably have papers which give you your pet’s birthday, and that makes it easy to identify his sign. But if your pet was obtained from a shelter, you might not be able to figure out when he was born. If you are unsure of your pet’s birthday, it is possible to make an educated guess based on your dog’s specific behavior and personality.

First, you should be able to identify your pet’s Sun Sign. The sun travels around the earth once each year. Within the space of that year, the Sun moves through 12 signs of the zodiac, and it's these 12 signs of the zodiac which show traits that are significant to your pet's personality. The position of the Sun in your pet's birth chart affects his personality and characteristics. Is your dog happy or grouchy? Does he cope with stress or seem to keep to himself? Is he manic or laid-back? The answers might be discovered with your pet's Sun sign. The 12 Sun signs are divided into four groups which contain three signs. Each group signifies an element: Fire, Earth, Air and Water.

Fire Signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius: active and passionate
Earth Signs: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn: practical and secure
Air Signs: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius: intelligent and talkative
Water Signs: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces: emotional and sensitive

See if your pet’s characteristics match up with the traits of these signs of the zodiac:

Aries: bold, athletic, adaptable, impatient and impulsive (March 21-April 19)
Taurus: affectionate, patient, stubborn, strong-willed and quiet (April 20-May 20)
Gemini: agile, alert, restless, vocal and fickle (May 21-June 20)
Cancer: loyal, gentle, grumpy, clingy and devoted (June 21-July 23)
Leo: fearless, energetic, dominant, demanding and gregarious (July 24-Aug. 22)
Virgo: shy, aloof, intelligent, charming and finicky (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
Libra: easygoing, peaceful, lovable, people-oriented and smart (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
Scorpio: responsive, independent, possessive, strong-willed and loving (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
Sagittarius: free-spirited, playful, amusing, curious and friendly (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
Capricorn: reserved, cold, territorial, good-natured and patient (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
Aquarius: independent, rebellious, people-oriented, aloof and outgoing (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
Pisces: touchy, devoted, sweet-natured, adaptable and unpredictable (Feb. 19-March 20)

One other thing to consider—your pet might have been born “on the cusp.” The cusp is the point at which a new astrological sign begins. When someone says my pet was "born on the cusp" he is referring to a birth date near the beginning and end of an astrological sign. For example, if your dog was born on June 20, he is a Gemini (May 21-June 20) born on the cusp of Cancer, the sign that begins on June 21. Your pet was born on the cusp if his birthday is within the first five or last five days of a sign. This means that your pet might possess distinct characteristics of each sign. A dog born on June 20 might be a Gemini, but also display many traits of a Cancer.

Researching your dog’s horoscope is a fun and interesting thing to do. Knowing his astrological sign might give you new insight into his character and personality, and help you to understand his behavior. It might even help you to connect with your friend a little bit better, too!
